ASN (advance ship notice)

An advance ship notice (ASN) is the electronic document a supplier or 3PL sends the receiver as a shipment leaves its dock. The notice declares what shipped, how the goods are packed, which carrier is moving them, and when they should arrive. Receiving teams schedule the delivery window and scan each carton against the notice instead of counting blind.
