PRO number

A PRO number, short for progressive rotating order number, is the tracking number a freight carrier assigns to a less-than-truckload (LTL) shipment at pickup: the freight equivalent of parcel tracking. It is printed on the bill of lading and shipping labels, and it is the number that claims and invoice reconciliation key on. In inbound operations, the PRO number arrives ahead of the truck in an advance ship notice (ASN).

Full guide: advance ship notices covers what an ASN contains, the EDI 856, and why ASNs matter in retail.
