UPS Integration for Negotiated-Rate Labels

Sell store inventory online and ship it at the UPS rates you already negotiated. Pipe17’s order management routes each order to the right store, where the packer compares UPS services and prints the label.

The Solution for UPS Integration & Order Management

UPS Prices and Delivers Each Carton. Pipe17 Routes the Order and Buys the Label.

With an iPaaS and a legacy OMS, shipping store orders on your UPS account takes one tool to pass carton details to UPS and another to pick the packing location. One Order Operations Platform from Pipe17 covers both. Its order management picks the store for every order, and that store’s packer buys the UPS label at your negotiated rates.

Speed and Cost Side by Side

Each UPS service for the carton comes back priced, cheapest first, with its arrival date. The packer picks the speed the order needs.

Void Labels at the Packing Screen

Void a wrong UPS label where the carton sits. UPS answers on the spot, and the packer prints a replacement at the same station.

Automated UPS Data Flows

Pipe17 sends UPS four requests: rate a carton, buy its label, void a label, and undo a partial purchase. UPS answers each one immediately, and four records come back into Pipe17: a rate list for the packer, a label per carton, a shipment ready to hand over, and the result of each void.
  • Rate Every UPS Service. Pipe17 asks UPS to price every service for a carton, given its weight, any dimensions, and the route from the packing location to the customer. No label is bought yet.
  • Buy the Chosen Label. Pipe17 buys the UPS service the packer picked, one shipment per carton, billed to your UPS shipper number, which is your account number. The carton ships from the Pipe17 location that packed it, whether a store working a ship-from-store order or a warehouse whose system calls the Pipe17 API. When a request asks for coverage, Pipe17 declares the carton’s value to UPS.
  • Void a Label. A packer voids a UPS label in Pipe17, and UPS accepts or rejects the void at once. The packer then requests a replacement label for that carton.
  • Undo a Partial Purchase. When a multi-carton request fails with some labels already bought, Pipe17 has UPS void them first, then reports the failure. The packer tries again.
  • Services, Prices, and Dates. Each UPS service for the carton at your negotiated rate, or the published rate where your contract has none, with its arrival date or days in transit, sorted cheapest first.
  • Label and Tracking Number. A 4×6 thermal label per carton, carrying its UPS tracking number, the service, and your order number as a reference, filed with the shipment and ready to print or reprint.
  • Shipment Ready to Hand Over. Once every carton has a label, the shipment is ready for fulfillment in Pipe17, with UPS and the chosen service on its record. At handover to UPS, the tracking number goes on to the sales channel.
  • Void Result. Accepted or rejected, recorded by Pipe17 on the label. Once no labels remain, an accepted void returns the shipment to waiting for a label. On a rejection, Pipe17 raises an exception that quotes UPS’s reason.

UPS Integration FAQs

Yes, Pipe17 integrates with UPS directly through the UPS Rating and Shipping APIs, pricing each carton across UPS services and buying the chosen label on your own UPS account. Labels are requested from the StoreOps app at a store packing station, or by a warehouse system through the Pipe17 API. Each tracking number lands on its shipment in Pipe17, ready for handover to UPS.

Pipe17 is an order management system (OMS) that connects to UPS directly for rates, labels, and voids. Pipe17's order routing picks which store or warehouse ships each order, and the packer at that location buys its UPS label on your account. No separate shipping tool sits in between, and the tracking number flows back to the sales channel.

Connect your UPS account to Pipe17, and every quote comes back at that account's negotiated rates, with each label billed to your own UPS shipper number. The packer sees your negotiated rate for each service, and the label bills at that rate. Where your contract has no negotiated rate for a service, UPS prices it at the published rate instead.

In Pipe17, a packer can choose from UPS Ground, 3 Day Select, 2nd Day Air, 2nd Day Air A.M., Next Day Air Saver, Next Day Air, and Next Day Air Early, whichever UPS offers for the carton's route, plus UPS Worldwide services for international parcels. For a request that names no service, Pipe17 buys UPS Ground, or the default you set on the integration.

Before Pipe17 buys anything, the packer sees every UPS service for the carton sorted by cost, each with its arrival date. The StoreOps app preselects the cheapest service, and the packer can trade up to a faster one. Pipe17 buys the service the packer chose and never substitutes another. The label then prints at the packing station.

Yes, a packer can void a UPS label in Pipe17, and reprint any label from its stored file without creating a new UPS shipment. UPS accepts or rejects a void in the same call. Once no labels are left, an accepted void sends the shipment back to waiting for a label. If UPS rejects the void, say after pickup, Pipe17 raises an exception with UPS's reason.

When a multi-carton UPS label request fails partway, Pipe17 asks UPS to void each label already bought in that request, then reports the failure. The packer requests the whole set again. If one of those voids fails, Pipe17 raises an exception that names the UPS shipment, flagging that label for a void at UPS.

Yes, Pipe17 runs UPS as one of several label providers in an organization, chosen store by store in the StoreOps app or set as the organization default. A store shipping on your UPS contract sits beside another on the USPS integration or EasyPost integration, and the packer's screen stays the same at both.

You need your six-character UPS shipper number and an app on the UPS developer portal with the Rating and Shipping products, created under the UPS.com login that owns that shipper account and approved by UPS for production. In Pipe17, add the UPS integration, enter the app's Client ID, Client Secret, and shipper number, then choose UPS as the label provider for each store that uses it.
